Oil: more ECO, the better

Organic oil, the new essential step towards sustainability of the historic company Monini, presented at Cibus 2021

Not reestablishing yet (hoping to arrive soon), but compensating yes. We talk about the CO2 emission reduction in production processes. THE'Oleificio Monini, crowned this year Leader in sustainability (Statista survey for Il Sole twenty-four Ore), it is actually the first major Italian player in the field to carry out a comprehensive carbon neutrality project. The company is committed to offsetting each and every one of the emissions produced throughout the life cycle of its 2 flagships in Italy and abroad: the Classic and the Delicate. This strong choice also allows users, little by little more sensitive to environmental issues and the "hidden" values in products, to convert the simple purchase extra virgin olive oil in gesture of responsibility.

100% CO2 (in less)

The project will begin operationally in second half of the year. Monini acquired carbon credits equivalent to the CO2 generated throughout the entire life cycle of the 2 products (Delicate and Classic), from the field to disposal. Monini is a process that began about ten years ago with the support of Environment Italy, one of the most reputable companies in environmental consulting from this country. In practice, thanks to life cycle analysis (LCA), it has been possible to quantify the impact in terms of gas emissions from each pipe.

Today “More and more companies on the planet are required by law to offset the emissions they produce to generate their resources and services and Monini has decided to voluntarily join the list of companies that, still without regulatory obligations, decide to monitor CO2 to get more factors. environmental sustainability and prepare the company for the economic sustainability of the future,” explains Dr. Andrea Ronchi from CO2Advisor, who supports Monini in this process.

Monini's environmental commitment

In general, the company's primary commitment remains there significant reduction of the environmental footprint of products: “The objective is to reduce our environmental footprint and, normally, work to promote another way of doing business, respectful of future generations.” Explain Maria Vegetation Monini, third generation at the head of the company alongside his brother Zefferino.

The “2% COXNUMX Offset” project is actually a part of the process begun with A Hand for the Future, the ten-year sustainable development plan presented by the company last year. Among the primary ones are bosco monini: by 2030 the company, in cooperation with its network of producers and distributors, will complete the construction of a "green lung" of 1 million olive trees in the Italian areas dedicated to olive cultivation. An action that will trap fifty tons of CO2, the equivalent of the average annual emissions of twenty-five passenger cars. All byproducts of processing will also be transformed into bioenergy or compost to feed the soil.
