Renata Freydin, a new mother who recently welcomed a son named Zayne at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, did her best to connect with her baby during his treatment in the NICU. Born 10 weeks early at just three pounds, Zayne was surrounded by nurses determined to make him as healthy as possible. Renata knew that her fiancé, David Caldwell, was born at the same hospital in 1986, but she was surprised to discover that one of Zayne's NICU nurses, Lissa McGowan, had also cared for David. 33 years ago
"As many of you know, our son was born 10 weeks early at St. Peter's University Hospital and has been with USIN ever since (he's doing incredibly well by the way!)," Renata wrote on a Facebook article now viral. . "What some of you may not know is that his father, my amazing fiancé, was also born about six weeks early at the same hospital!"
Small world, right? Well, apparently David didn't know that he and Zayne had been treated by Lissa until they released the family photo album. "She took out her baby book to show me," Renata wrote. "As I was looking, I came across a photo of him as a baby and a woman holding him. I met this woman! I immediately asked him who she was and he confirmed that she was there. "Nurse who took care of him during his stay in the hospital. NICU. "His mother loved him so much that she needed a photo of the two of them on the day of his release!"
It didn't take Renata long to connect the dots. "The reason I know her is because I swore she was the nurse who had been taking care of our boy for three days! David didn't believe me," she said. "We took the photo to the hospital where three other nurses confirmed it was Lissa!"
On Valentine's Day, Renata and David decided to recreate the image while Lissa took care of Zayne, and the end result is truly beautiful. "The last two weeks have been full of worries and uncertainties," Renata said. "But we can breathe easy knowing that the nurse in my little nugget is the same woman who helped the man I love when she was in the same situation."
