How to make whipped matcha (Dalgona Matcha) Two ways + tips I'm a food blog I'm a food blog

I'm sure you've already heard of dalgona coffee, that viral instant coffee drink that's EVERYTHING right now. Here's the matcha version: smooth, dense, frothy, frothy matcha floating in iced milk. There are three different ways to make dalgona matcha: with pure matcha, egg white, and whipped cream. I made dalgona matcha with egg whites and whipped cream so you can see the difference and decide how you want dalgona matcha at home today!

What is Dalgona Matcha?
Dalgona matg is essentially fluffy matcha milk. It is based on the ever-popular Dalgona coffee, which uses instant coffee. Instead of coffee, dalgona matcha uses matcha or green tea powder.

How is it done?
Dalgona matcha is made by whipping egg whites or cream with matcha powder and sugar until thick and fluffy. The fluffy matcha is collected with iced (or hot) milk.

Should I use egg whites?
No, you can use heavy whipping cream if you don't want to use egg whites.

Should I use heavy whipping cream?
No, you can use egg whites if you don't want to use heavy whipping cream. Otherwise, heavy whipping cream is your best bet. If you know the preparation of coconut cream, you can also use it.

Should I use sugar?
For the egg white mixture, sugar is preferable because the sugar will help the meringue maintain its structure. If you make the whipped cream version, any sweetener is possible.

Should I use a blender?
Yeah! Unlike dalgona coffee, I don't recommend making this drink without a blender, since you're essentially making a meringue or whipped cream and it takes a lot of power to whip egg whites or heavy cream by hand. A stand mixer or hand mixer will work.

Should it be ice milk?
You can use hot or iced milk, the choice is yours! I went there with ice cream because it makes the milk go further and I need to stretch the milk as long as possible. Plus, frozen drinks always make me think of long afternoons at cafes, so I wanted this cafe to feel like home. But of course, hot matcha ribbons are delicious too!

Should it be milk?
You can put your whipped matcha dalgona in whatever you like, including matcha or other non-dairy milks like oat milk, almond, soy, cashew, etc.

What does it taste like?
Dalgona matcha has a matcha milk flavor but with a thick and creamy texture, velvety and rich. It is smooth and has a nice touch of matcha.

Which matcha dalgona should I make, egg or cream?
It's up to you! The dalgona matcha egg is more velvety and tastes more succulent on the tongue, but the dalgona matcha cream is light but rich and creamy. I like the texture of the egg but I prefer the taste of the cream. Creamy matcha dalgona is much quicker and easier to make, so I like it, but it's up to you!
